What is BS EN 13075-1 - Breaking value of cationic bituminous emulsions about?
BS EN 13075 is a series of the European standard on bitumen and bituminous binders used in the building construction, maintenance and repair to ensure structural stability and durability.
BS EN 13075-1 is the first part of the BS EN 13075 series of documents that specifies a method for the determination of the breaking value of cationic bituminous emulsions.
Who is BS EN 13075-1 - Breaking value of cationic bituminous emulsions for?
BS EN 13075-1 on bitumen and bituminous binders is useful for:
- Manufacturers of bituminous products
Why should you use BS EN 13075-1 - Breaking value of cationic bituminous emulsions?
The breaking value is a dimensionless number corresponding to the amount of reference filler, in grams, needed to coagulate 100 g of bitumen emulsions.
BS EN 13075-1 specifies the characteristics of the reference fillers.
BS EN 13075-1 provides the requirements of reagents and laboratory apparatus that includes equipment for the semi-automatic procedure and for the manual procedure.
BS EN 13075-1 navigates you through the sampling and test procedure of the test specimen under normal laboratory conditions to determine the breaking value of the emulsion sample.
Expression of results and test report of the individual breaking values can be determined by BS EN 13075-1.
Furthermore, BS EN 13075-1 guides you through the manufacturing of bituminous emulsions by identifying its breaking behaviour, which allows for the dispersion of the bitumen while assuring the emulsion's stability and adhesion with aggregates at room temperature.
In this manner, a bituminous emulsion can be used to provide a good-looking, waterproof, and long-lasting finish that is suitable for patching, repairs, and preventative maintenance ensuring ductility or brittleness, by considering the fracture work and the deformation energy parameters.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 13075-1:2016 supersedes BS EN 13075-1:2009. BS EN 13075-1:2016 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 13075-1:2009. These include:
- Three reference fillers (Forshammer, Sikaisol and Caolin Q92) may be used
- Calibration range of the filler feeder and accuracy requirements for the timer are extended so as to cover the case of slow breaking emulsions
- More accurate and more complete description of the test procedure as well as the calculation and reporting of the actual filler feeding rate
- New factors for the conversion of measured breaking values into “Forshammer equivalents”
- Value for Reproducibility is now stated, as an outcome of the TC336/WG2 Round Robin.
