What is ISO 155-Belt drives about?  

ISO 155 is an International Standard that discusses belt and pulley drives. 

ISO 155 specifies the limiting values for the adjustment of centres of two transmission pulleys. 

ISO 155 is applicable to: 

  • Crowned pulleys for flat belts 
  • Grooved pulleys for V-belts, either single, multiple or joined 
  • Grooved pulleys for V-ribbed belts 
  • Toothed pulleys for synchronous belts 

The main objective of ISO 155 is to ensure manufacturers maintain consistent and satisfactory belt drive quality and performance.

Why should you use ISO 155-Belt drives 

Belt drives are a type of frictional drives used for transmitting powers from one shaft to another by means of pulleys.  

ISO 155 provides you with the limit values for adjustment of centre distance that are specified in terms of factors i and s. As a result, you can determine the centre distance adjustment necessary to install a belt onto the pulleys and readjust working tension. 

ISO 155 recommends that these limiting values should be considered by the belt manufacturers as maxima, and by the designers and makers of the machinery as minima. 

ISO 155 lets you deal with uncertainty in the event of belt extension or dimensional wear by enlisting the factors associated centre distance adjustments.   

Thus, ISO 155 can enable correct operation of a belt under the influence of belt extension and dimensional wear.

BS ISO 155:2019 supersedes BS ISO 155:1998, which is withdrawn.  Few significant changes as compared to the previous version are:
