What is BSI Flex 2072 v2.0 about?

This updated standard, BSI Flex 2072 v2.0 supports the rollout of hydrogen fuelled cell and battery electric HDVs.

The BSI Flex enables upskilling of the vehicle maintenance and repair industry by providing specifications on planning and operating workshops suitable for heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs) equipped with batteries, hydrogen tanks and fuel cells.

It is part our Zero Emission HGVs and Infrastructure Standards Programme, sponsored by Connected Places Catapult (CPC) and funded by the Department for Transport.

What does BSI Flex 2072 v2.0 cover?

The standard has been updated to reflect the latest in-practice workshop operations, including inspection, maintenance, and repair and covers key aspects of these workshops, including risk management, layout, personnel, and more.

Additionally, it outlines requirements for managing these HDVs, encompassing use, parking, fuelling for commissioning, diagnostics, installation, disposal, transportation, and documentation.

Why should you use BSI Flex 2072 v2.0?

Applying guidance from this standard supports the effective and safe operation and planning of the workshops. It aligns repair and maintenance with best practices for handling battery electric and hydrogen-fuelled HDVs. This will ultimately facilitate the roll out of zero emission HGVs, buses, and coaches.

Who is BSI Flex 2072 v2.0 for?

This BSI Flex is applicable to fleet managers in identifying and embedding the appropriate safety principles in the development of inspection and maintenance protocols for battery electric and hydrogen-fuelled HDVs. It is also applicable to those responsible for planning or design of storage, maintenance, and inspection facilities such as workshops and warehouses.

BSI Flex 2072 v2.0 is of use to:

• Battery electric and hydrogen-fuelled HDV workshop architects, workshop owners, workshop staff, original equipment manufacturers (OEM), and system manufacturers,

• Battery electric and hydrogen-fuelled HDV owners and users, dealers, and local authorities.

What are the updates compared with version one?

The main changes are:

  • Revisions that better reflect the practical operation of workshops for zero-emission HDVs.
  • Amends to clauses to make it more measurable and verifiable.
  • Addition of references to existing standards, legislation, regulations, and guidance literature.
