What is BS EN 133832 – Armourstone about? 

BS EN 13383 is a European standard that discusses Armourstone. Armourstone is a stone application that is used for wave protection. 

BS EN 133832 is the second part of the European standard that discusses the test methods for Armourstone. BS EN 133832 specifies sampling and test methods for natural, artificial and recycled aggregates for use as Armourstone.  

BS EN 133832 specifies the reference methods to be used for type testing and in case of a dispute where an alternative method has been used. For other purposes, in particular factory production control, other methods are provided that an appropriate working relationship with the test methods has been established.

Why should you use BS EN 133832 – Armourstone? 

Armourstone is a range of natural (and sometimes artificial) stone applications which is used for the protection of shorelines and erosion protection of streambanks from the eroding of waves and flowing water as well as in retaining walls and slope buttressing related to construction. 

BS EN 133832 describes the methods for obtaining the samples of Armourstone from preparation and processing plants including stocks and silos, stockpiles and deliveries. The aim of sampling is to obtain samples that are the average properties of the batch. It is also suitable for obtaining sampling increments, which are tested separately. 

Methods that are to be used for sampling reduction are also provided in BS EN 133832. With obedience and compliance to BS EN 133832, you can be ensured of the characteristics of Armourstone. 

What’s changed since the last update? 

BS EN 133832:2019 supersedes BS EN 133832:2002, which is withdrawn. It includes: 

  • Changes and clarifications to the sampling and sample reduction clauses, including a new informative Annex on sampling from waterborne plant 
  • Introduction of requirements for sample preparation for the Micro-Deval test previously in EN 13383-1. 
  • Deletion of an unused wet sieving method for the determination of particle size distribution of coarse gradings of armourstone 
  • Removal to an informative annex of a previously normative alternative to the reference method for determination of the mass distribution of light and heavy gradings.
