What is IEC 60974‑8 about?
IEC 60974‑8 is one of the parts of a multi-series standard. IEC 60974-8 specifies safety and performance requirements for gas consoles intended to be used with combustible gases or oxygen. These gas consoles are designed to supply gases for use in arc welding, plasma cutting, gouging and allied processes in non-explosive atmospheres.
The gas console can be located either outside or within the power source container. In the latter instance, the power supply must meet both IEC 60974-1 and IEC 60974‑8.
Who is IEC 60974‑8 for?
IEC 60974‑8 on arc welding equipment is applicable to
- Construction, automotive, mechanical Industries
- Sheet metal manufacturers
- Manufacturers of pressure vessels
- Manufacturers of aircraft & aerospace
- Shipbuilding industry
- Welding equipment manufacturers
Why should you use IEC 60974‑8?
When dealing with electrical equipment it is important to ensure they are safe to use. IEC 60974‑8 helps improve the safety and performance of gas consoles in arc welding equipment.
IEC 60974‑8 assists design engineers in developing gas consoles for welding and plasma cutting systems in arc welding equipment according to standard safety requirements.
IEC 60974-11 helps bring global uniformity in welding equipment, which increases the market size for users of this document.
What’s changed since the last update?
