BS EN 50436-2 discusses alcohol interlocks. BS EN 50436-2 specifies test methods and performance requirements for breath alcohol-controlled alcohol interlocks having a mouthpiece. It covers alcohol interlocks intended for general preventive use.  

BS EN 50436-2 also applies to alcohol interlocks integrated into other control systems of the vehicle as well as accessory devices connected to the alcohol interlock. 

Note 1: BS EN 50436-2 does not apply to: 

  • Alcohol interlocks intended for use in traffic safety programmes for drink driving offenders (see EN 50436-1),
