What is BS EN 13080 - Environmental protection requirements for manure spreaders about?

BS EN 13080 is a European standard that covers environmental protection requirements for manure spreaders, enabling the prevention of manure contamination in manure spreading applications.

BS EN 13080 specifies test methods and requirements for the design and construction of manure spreaders for spreading manure in agriculture and horticulture with the intention of minimising the environmental damage.

BS EN 13080 specifies requirements for the transverse and longitudinal spreading characteristics such as working widths, characteristic application rate, characteristic flow, the stretch within the tolerance zone and the coefficient of variation for the longitudinal spreading.

BS EN 13080 requirements are valid only according to the tests with manure as described in Table A.1.

Note 1: BS EN 13080 is not applicable to manure band-spreaders or to sludge spreaders.

Note 2: Personal safety aspects have not been considered in BS EN 13080. These aspects are covered by EN 690

Who is BS EN 13080 - Environmental protection requirements for manure spreaders for?

BS EN 13080 on Environmental protection requirements for manure spreaders applies to:

  • Manufacturers of manure spreaders
  • Dealers and importers of manure spreaders
  • Testing houses for manure spreaders
  • Safety assurance services

Why should you use BS EN 13080 - Environmental protection requirements for manure spreaders?

A manure spreader machine is used for transporting and spreading manure and other mainly non-liquid organic products or soil improvers (e.g., lime) on the field. These are agricultural machines that are used to distribute manure uniformly across farmland and farms. Farmers can control the fertility of their soil and maintain its quality by using manure spreaders.

BS EN 13080 provides users guidance on requirements based on the selection of manure for tests, including transverse distribution, longitudinal distribution, stretch within the tolerance zone, coefficient of variation and optimum overlapping, enabling uniform distribution of manure in agricultural applications.

BS EN 13080 also provides users guidance on manure characteristics, principles, bulk density, and dry matter content, enabling users to standardize the characteristics and physical properties of manure.

With obedience and compliance to BS EN 13080, users can implement test methods to assess manure spreaders to minimize environmental damage in manure spreader operations.
