What is ISO 202903 – Aggregates for concrete about?

ISO 20290 is a series of international standards on concrete that discusses the test methods for mechanical and physical properties for aggregates for concrete. Concrete aggregates are composed of geological materials such as gravel, sand and crushed rock.

ISO 202903 is the third part of the ISO 20290 series, which gives the determination of aggregate crushing value (ACV) of aggregates. This gives a relative measure of the resistance of the aggregate crushing under the gradually applied compressive load.

The method is applicable to aggregates passing a 14,0 mm test sieve and retained on a 10,0 mm test sieve. For other size fractions, a recommended method is described in Annex A. The aggregate size fraction taken for this test can also be as per the relevant national standards.

Who is ISO 202903 – Aggregates for concrete for?

ISO 202903 on mechanical and physical properties of aggregates for concrete is applicable to:

  • Manufacturer of concrete ingredients
  • Civil engineers
  • Quality testing of concrete
  • Suppliers of aggregate materials for concrete

Why should you use ISO 202903 – Aggregates for concrete?

Aggregate materials help to make concrete mixes more compact. They also decrease the consumption of cement and water and contribute to the mechanical strength of the concrete, making them an indispensable ingredient in the construction and maintenance of rigid structures. Concrete aggregates are composed of geological materials such as gravel, sand and crushed rock.

ISO 202903 gives you the aggregate crushing value which is defined as the percentage by weight of the crushed (or finer) material obtained when the test aggregates are subjected to a specified load under standardized conditions, and the strength of the aggregate used in road construction is expressed by numerical index.

As a user of ISO 202903, you can be ensured of mechanical and physical properties of aggregates for concrete.
