What is BS EN 4708-108 - Fire hazard sleeving about ?
BS EN 4708-108 is an international standard for aerospace series that guides on the fire hazard sleeving.
BS EN 4708-108 specifies the required characteristics for four types of heat-shrinkable limited fire hazard sleeving for use in aircraft electrical systems at operating temperatures between 65 °C and 150 °C.
This sleeving is flexible, flame retarded, and emits minimum smoke, gases, and corrosive by-products when exposed to fire. It is available with various wall thicknesses and, also in a higher shrink ratio according to the application and degree of mechanical protection required. It is suitable for use (e.g., as cable protection) in areas where smoke, gases, or corrosive by-products would constitute a particular hazard.
Type A: Medium wall, shrink ratio 2:1 and is normally supplied with internal diameters up to 30 mm.
Sizes or colours other than those specifically listed in this document may be available. These items shall be considered to comply with BS EN 4708-108 if they comply with the property requirements listed in Table 2 except for dimensions and mass.
Who is BS EN 4708-108 - Fire hazard sleeving for ?
BS EN 4708-108 on fire hazard sleeving is useful for:
- Aircraft electrical manufacturers
- Aerospace and defence industries
- Design engineers for fire sleeves
- Quality control personnel for fire sleeves
Why should you use BS EN 4708-108 - Fire hazard sleeving ?
A fire sleeve is a protective covering wrapped around flexible hoses to protect from fire.
Fire sleeves are easy to apply, halogen-free, flame retardant, self-extinguishing, print compatible, and emit minimum smoke during a fire and are ideal to use where limited fire hazard properties are required. BS EN 4708-108 guides you through all these characteristics.
A fire sleeve is specially designed to protect cables and hoses exposed to high temperatures and molten metal splashes.
By using BS EN 4708-108, you can manufacture the best quality fire sleeves including all the qualities that make it best for use in aircraft.
