What is BS EN 4708-301 - Adhesive lined polyolefin sleevings about?

BS EN 4708-301 is an international standard for aerospace series that provides guidance on the adhesive-lined polyolefin sleevings.

BS EN 4708-301 specifies the required characteristics for heat-shrinkable adhesive-lined polyolefin sleevings for use in aircraft electrical systems at operating temperatures between - 55°C and 105 °C.

The sleeving consists of an outer layer being of a flexible cross-linked polyolefin. The inner wall consists of a hot melt adhesive that flows and fuses during the shrinking process to provide a bond that is suitable where an environmental seal is required.

These sleevings are normally supplied with internal diameters up to 40 mm for shrink ratios of 3:1 and up to 52 mm for shrink ratios of 4:1.

These sleevings are normally supplied in the colour black.

Sizes or colours other than those specifically listed in BS EN 4708-301 may be available as custom items. These items shall be considered to comply with BS EN 4708-301 if they comply with the property requirements listed in Table 3 and Table 5 except for dimensions and mass.

Who is BS EN 4708-301 - Adhesive lined polyolefin sleevings for?

BS EN 4708-301 on adhesive-lined polyolefin sleevings is useful for:

  • Aerospace avionic and fibre optic technology
  • Aircraft electrical manufacturers
  • Design engineers for adhesive-lined polyolefin sleeves
  • Quality control personnel for adhesive-lined polyolefin sleeves
  • Manufacturers of heat-shrinkable polyolefin sleeving
  • Electrical installation companies

Why should you use BS EN 4708-301 - Adhesive lined polyolefin sleevings?

Adhesive-lined heat shrink tubing with environmental sealing capability is used for a wide variety of electrical applications including, automotive and marine wire harnesses, wire splices, breakouts, and connector-to-cable transitions.

As a manufacturer, you can use BS EN 4708-301 guidance in the production of electrical applications, wirings, etc.

Adopting BS EN 4708-301requirements can ensure the adhesive-lined polyolefin sleeving provides excellent electrical insulation and incidents of splitting and product failure, are minimized. If you are a manufacturer of adhesive-lined polyolefin sleeving, adopting standardized practices can enhance reliability and credibility of your products.

By using BS EN 4708-301, you can manufacture the best quality sleeves including all the qualities that make it best for use in aircraft.
