What is BS EN 6057 about?

BS EN 6057 specifies the characteristics of adjustable rod-ends consisting of:

  • A spherical plain bearing, metal to metal, in corrosion resisting steel, wide series (EN 4265).
  • A rod-end with internal threaded shank.

Note: This document is published at edition P2. Former P1 and drafts may exist of Airbus development only but without any ASD-STAN official publication. In consequence configuration management discrepancies with these unofficial documents are under Airbus responsibility.

Who is BS EN 6057 for?

BS EN 6057 on adjustable rod-ends in corrosion resisting steel is useful for:

  • Aerospace parts manufacturers
  • Adjustable rod end manufacturers
  • Self-aligning double row ball bearing manufacturers
  • Structural engineers

Why should you use BS EN 6057

A rod end provides an effective point-to-point contact with the center of rotation lying on the axis of both attached shafts. This simplifies kinematic design and provides rigid mechanisms which do not subject control rods to bending moments. Rod ends consist of an eye-shaped head with an integral shank that forms a housing for a spherical plain bearing.  Adjustable rod-ends in corrosion resisting steel are intended for use in fixed or moving parts of the aircraft structure and their control mechanisms, which is vital for aeroplane passengers' safety. BS EN 6057 on the characteristics of adjustable rod-ends consisting provides best practices for the same.

BS EN 6057 gives all the details on the requirements, designation, marking and technical specification adjustable rod-ends in corrosion resisting steel, which will give you a solid base to start with and reduce the risk of safety and increase credibility for the aerospace industry.

BS EN 6057 concludes with a quality management system section which makes sure that all the practices that are implemented are able to maintain the necessary quality standards, which gives you an assurance of safety.
