What is BS EN 9300-010 - LOTAR for aerospace about?

Data needs to be stored and maintained so that data is retrievable and usable for the required archiving period. In addition, for some business requirements, data needs to be authentically preserved and accessed. BS EN 9300 series focuses on Long Term Archiving and Retrieval (LOTAR) of digital technical product documentation for aerospace applications.

BS EN 9300-010 provides an overview description for the recommended processes for archiving of 3D product data, e.g. 3D CAD and PDM data. The processes are described in EN 9300‑011 to EN 9300‑016.

BS EN 9300-010 is applicable to new 3-D product data records and may be applicable to existing 3D product data records, on current and earlier products, produced using previous regulations, standards and procedures. The current version is focused on product data as defined in the domain specific parts.

Who is BS EN 9300-010 - LOTAR for aerospace for?

BS EN 9300-010  on LOTAR for aerospace is useful for:

  • The aerospace industry
  • The IT industry / the IT divisions at aerospace facilities
  • Programmers
  • Personnel involved in implementing / maintaining / executing LOTAR

Why should you use BS EN 9300-010 - LOTAR for aerospace?

Many companies are migrating their design processes from traditional hard-copy drawings and documents to using digital data. New processes are needed to archive digital data and preserve access to it, in compliance with business and regulatory requirements appropriate to this new media. Over these time periods, changes in technology impact the ability to retrieve and use product data. Organizations, which use digital product data, will need strategies and processes that maintain the usability of the data over multiple generations of technology.

BS EN 9300-010 provides you with the overview data flow which is divided into several phases. This includes the phases data preparation, ingest, archival storage, retrieval, removal. The overview is organized along the life cycle of the data to be archived.

BS EN 9300-010 addresses the need for managing the evolution of technologies required to ensure the availability and usability of the data for the required archiving period.
