What is BS EN 2591-221 - Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) about?

BS EN 2591 is a European standard that discusses the elements of the electrical and optical connection.

BS EN 2591-221 specifies a measurement method of Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR), in the required frequency bandwidth of coax contacts or connectors with characteristic impedance.

BS EN 2591-221 shall be used together with EN 2591-100.

The measurement is carried out according to the vectorial method using “S” parameters.

Who is BS EN 2591-221 - Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) for?

BS EN 2591-221 on Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) is relevant to:

  • Manufacturers of optical connection elements
  • Manufacturers of fibre optic elements
  • Aerospace and defence industries
  • Manufacturers of coaxial device
  • Quality control personnel
  • Aerospace technical specialists

Why should you use BS EN 2591-221 - Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR)?

Voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) is defined as the ratio between transmitted and reflected voltage standing waves in a radio frequency (RF) electrical transmission system.

BS EN 2591-221 guides you on the preparation of specimens and provides test methods for measuring VSWR.

With obedience and compliance to BS EN 2591-221, you can standardize and demonstrate the reliability of optical connection elements and build trust in their use throughout the aerospace supply chain.
