What is BS EN 3475-704- Appraising the flexibility of a completed cable about?

BS EN 3475-704 is a European Standard. BS EN 3475-704 specifies two methods for appraising the flexibility of a completed cable and its bending aptitude. Method 1 is for cables not less than 5 mm2 cross-section cables, and Method 2 is for cables not larger than 5 mm2 (10 AWG) cross-section cables.

Unless otherwise specified in the product standard, Method 1 applies.

BS EN 3475-704 shall be used together with EN 3475-100. BS EN 3475- 704 has been prepared by the European Association of Aerospace Manufacturers (AECMA). BS EN 3475- 704 covers the preparation of specimens, requirements, and method of appraising the flexibility of a completed cable and its bending aptitude.

Who is BS EN 3475-704- Appraising the flexibility of a completed cable for?

BS EN 3475-704 on appraising the flexibility of a completed cable is useful for:

  • Electric cables inspectors
  • Aerospace products manufacturers
  • Testing agencies involved in the inspection of aerospace products
  • Quality control personnel for spacecraft products
  • Aeronautical engineers
  • Aerospace researchers

Why should you use BS EN 3475-704- Appraising the flexibility of a completed cable?

Aircraft electrical cables sustain intense vibration during take-off, flight, and landing, while also being subject to harsh environmental conditions. Cable faults cost money and create disruption, so there is an enormous demand for cable test techniques to ensure cables and joints are in good condition.

BS EN 3475-704 provides best practice guidelines on the test methods for appraising the flexibility of a completed cable and its bending aptitude in aircraft systems.

By adopting BS EN 3475-704, manufacturers can demonstrate the reliability of products and build trust in their use throughout the aerospace supply chain.

The guidelines in BS EN 3475-704, ensure the efficiency of aircraft systems, thereby preventing damage and danger to aircraft cables during use.
