What is BS EN 658-4 - Interlaminar shear strength of ceramics about?

BS EN 658-4  is a European Standard that forms the fourth part of the Advanced technical ceramics - Mechanical properties of ceramic composites at room temperature series. BS EN 658-4 specifies the conditions for determination of the interlaminar shear strength of ceramic matrix composite materials with continuous fibre reinforcement at room temperature, by loading a notched test specimen in compression.

BS EN 658-4 applies to all-ceramic matrix composites with a continuous fibre reinforcement unidirectional (1D) and bidirectional (2D) and tri-directional (xD, with 2 < x < 3) as defined in ENV 13233, loaded along one principal axis of reinforcement.

Note: Two other methods for the determination of shear strength are given in further parts of EN 658.

Who is BS EN 658-4 - Interlaminar shear strength of ceramics for?

BS EN 658-4  on Determining interlaminar shear strength of ceramics is useful for:

  • Entities involved in Ceramic Research
  • Advanced technical ceramics manufacturers
  • Materials Engineers

Why should you use BS EN 658-4 - Interlaminar shear strength of ceramics?

Determining the interlaminar shear strength of ceramics is vital because of the important applications of advanced technical ceramics. interlaminar shear strength is one of the mechanical properties of advanced technical ceramics that demonstrate the ceramic's resilience to fatigue under shear stresses.

BS EN 658-4 outlines the tests, procedures, dimensions, calculations and much more to determine the interlaminar shear strength of ceramics. This helps you design and manufacture the high quality ceramics product and assure the high performance of your product.

Adhering to BS EN 658-4  guidelines to precisely determine the interlaminar shear strength of ceramics, helps you ensure the consumers about credibility and durablibility your product.
