What is BS EN 1007-2 - Determination of the linear density of ceramic composites about?

BS EN 1007-2 is a European standard that discusses the conditions for the determination of the linear density (mass per unit length) of ceramic composites. BS EN 1007-2 specifies the conditions for the determination of the linear density (mass per unit length) of ceramic multifilament tows, including among others silicon carbide, silicon nitride, silicon carbonitride, alumino-silicate, alumina, and silicon oxide fibres.

Note1: When the determination of the linear density is carried out on sized multifilament tow, a correction should be made by calculation based on the size content.

Note2: Carbon fibres are not covered by this European Standard. ISO 1889 should be used for carbon fibres.

Who is BS EN 1007-2 - Determination of the linear density of ceramic composites for?

BS EN 1007-2: on determination of the linear density of ceramic composites is useful for:

  • Manufacturers and designers of ceramic composites
  • Engineers
  • Quality control personnel

Why should you use BS EN 1007-2 - Determination of the linear density of ceramic composites?

The linear density, a measure of the mass per unit length of fibres, is used by fibres manufacturers as a measure of fineness.

The linear density of individual fibres is one of the most important physical characteristics in terms of processability and predictability of the next-step intermediate product, such as ceramic multifilament tows, including among others silicon carbide, silicon nitride, silicon carbonitride, alumino-silicate, alumina, and silicon oxide fibres.

BS EN 1007-2 also provides the procedure for the determination of the linear density of ceramic composites. BS EN 1007-2 also guides you with the calculation and expression of results. BS EN 1007-2 helps you to manufacture high-quality ceramic composites materials.
