What is BS EN 205 - Wood adhesives about?

BS EN 205 is an international standard used for adhesives that specifies the test method for wood adhesives.

BS EN 205 specifies tests for adhesives for wood and derived timber products for the assessment of their resistance to hot and cold water. It can be used for the assessment of the strength of bonds with a thin bond line.

Note: BS EN 205 does not apply to adhesives for structural use or to the manufacture of particleboards, fibreboards and plywood. It does not replace tests on finished products.

Who is BS EN 205- Wood adhesives for?

BS EN 205 on Adhesives is useful for:

  • Constructor of wooden houses
  • Civil engineers
  • Architects
  • Interior designers
  • Manufacturers of furniture
  • Sculptor of timber structure

Why should you use BS EN 205 - Wood adhesives

BS EN 205 can help in conducting tests on wood adhesives to determine the tensile shear strength of lap joints. These test methods assess the sustainability of these adhesives in different climatic conditions.

Using BS EN 205 you can classify these adhesives according to the durability classes.

Applying BS EN 205, you can manufacture high-quality wood adhesive.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 205:2016 supersedes BS EN 205:2003. BS EN 205:2016 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 205:2003. These include:

  • Assessment of the strength based on thick bond lines deleted
  • Processing conditions for adhesive application specified in 6.1 if no manufacturer's instructions are available
  • Number of test pieces modified in 6.3
  • Test results of all 20 test pieces to be given in the test report
