What is ISO 26842-2 about?
ISO 26842-1 discusses the adhesives for indoor wood products. ISO 26842-2 is the second part of a series of documents that provides guidelines to select, by means of delamination-resistance tests, adhesive/wood combinations for use in wood products placed in severe environments, in which the products are exposed to the extreme change of temperature and humidity.
ISO 26842-2 provides a series of exposure cycles at various temperature and humidity values to verify that the adhesive selected, or a product bonded with the adhesive meets the necessary requirements for resistance to delamination.
Note: ISO 26842-1 is not intended for use in the qualification of structural components and when actual wood products are tested using this method, the test results might not be comparable because the test laboratory will not normally have had adequate control over the way the product was assembled.
Who is ISO 26842-2 for?
ISO 26842-2 on adhesives for indoor wood products is applicable to:
- Furniture and fixtures industry
- Decorative elements, musical instruments, and artwork manufacturers
- Specialty and prefabricated housing products manufacturers
- Doors and window frames manufacturers
Why should you use ISO 26842-2?
Wood is prone to delamination over time. The right kind of adhesive is required to prevent this kind of damage.
Guidelines in ISO 26842-2 help you not only to select a suitable adhesive but also to evaluate adhesives and adhesively bonded wood products.
Adhesively bonded wood products are subjected to severe environmental conditions such as humidity and temperature change, which can cause delamination of adhesively bonded wood products. As a result, standard test guidelines are required to assess the reliability of adhesively bonded wood products and adhesive used. For this, ISO 26842-2 specifies the delamination-resistance tests for adhesively bonded wood products. This will assist you in increasing the durability and service life of indoor wood products.
Temperature and humidity can also affect the adhesives used to bond these wood products,
ISO 26842-2 provides you with the steps of exposure cycles for verification and selection of adhesive and the product bonded with the adhesive meets the essential standards for delamination resistance.
