What is BS EN 13999-2 - Adhesives about?

BS EN 13999-2 specifies a method for the determination of single volatile organic compounds (VOC) and of the total amount of volatile organic compounds (TVOCEN 13999) in the exhaust air of an emission test chamber after application of a low-solvent or solvent-free adhesive as defined in EN 923:2005+A1:2008.

The methods described in BS EN 13999-2 is based on use of a solid sorbent with subsequent desorption and gas chromatographic analysis.

The methods described in BS EN 13999-2 is applicable to measurement of non-polar and slightly polar VOC.

Who is BS EN 13999-2 - Adhesives for?

BS EN 13999-2 on Adhesives is useful for:

  • Manufacturers of furniture
  • Sculptors of timber structures
  • Carpenter
  • Constructors of wooden houses
  • Civil engineers

Why should you use BS EN 13999-2 - Adhesives?

Solvent-free and low-solvent adhesives may release considerable long-term emissions of volatile chemical compounds. Any documentation of emission characteristics requires a test method that includes all relevant and potentially hazardous substances.

BS EN 13999-2 provides methods and procedures for measuring the emission properties of low solvent or solvent free adhesives after its application and determine volatile organic compounds.

BS EN 13999-2 provides methods that are essential for ensuring that testing is reliable and reproducible, that results are gained within a short period, and that carcinogenic or sensitizing volatile substances are significantly absent.

Using BS EN 13999-2 you can get help in determining the volatile organic compounds. By using BS EN 13999-2 you can manufacture better quality solvent-free adhesives.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 13999-2:2013 supersedes BS EN 13999-2:2007. BS EN 13999-2:2013 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 3023:2007. These include:

  • change in the calculation of total VOC
  • harmonization of the testing conditions to EN ISO 16000-9
