What is BS EN 302-3 - Transverse tensile strength about ?

BS EN 302-3 is the third part of an international series of adhesives used for load-bearing timber structures.

BS EN 302-3 specifies a method for determining the effect on transverse tensile strength of damage to wood fibres caused by the action of acids from the adhesive or primer used in the gluing process during climatic cycling.

Note: This method is not intended for use to provide numerical design data and does not necessarily represent the performance of the bonded member in service.

Who is BS EN 302-3 - Transverse tensile strength for ?

BS EN 302-3 on Adhesives for load-bearing timber structures is useful for:

  • Manufacturers of furniture
  • Sculptors of timber structures
  • Carpenter
  • Constructors of wooden houses
  • Civil engineers

Why should you use BS EN 302-3 - Transverse tensile strength ?

BS EN 302-3 helps in joining or attaching the load-bearing timber structures by using adhesives.  The test method outlined in BS EN 302-3 helps in increasing the life of adhesives in different climatic conditions.

Using BS EN 302-3 you can calculate the transverse tensile strength.  This calculation can help in determining the effect of transverse tensile strength of damaged wood fibres. By using BS EN 302-3 you can manufacture better quality load-bearing timber structures by using good quality adhesives.

What’s changed since the last update ?

BS EN 302-3:2017 supersedes BS EN 302-3:2013. BS EN 302-3:2017 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 3023:2013. These include:

  • EN 15416-2 is replaced by EN 302-8, Adhesives for load-bearing timber structures — Test methods — Part 8: Static load test of multiple bond line specimens in compression shear
  • Specification of beech for test pieces for gap filling adhesives in 5.1
  • Reparation of test pieces for gap filling adhesives added in 5.2
  • Description of climate cycling test in 5.5 completed
