What is BS EN 302-2 - Resistance of delamination about ?

BS EN 302-2 is the second part of an international standard used for adhesives for load-bearing timber structures that specifies the test method. BS EN 302-2 specifies a method for determining the resistance to delamination in glue lines.

Note 1: This test is not applicable for modified and stabilized wood with strongly reduced swelling and shrinkage properties, such as acetylated wood, heat-treated wood and polymer impregnated wood.

Note 2: This method is not intended to provide data for structural design and does not necessarily represent the performance of the bonded member in service.

Who is BS EN 302-2 - Resistance of delamination for ?

BS EN 302-2 on Adhesives for load-bearing timber structures is useful for:

  • Manufacturers of furniture
  • Sculpting the timber structures
  • Carpenter
  • Construction of wooden houses
  • Civil engineers

Why should you use BS EN 302-2 - Resistance of delamination ?

Delamination is separating a coating from a substrate or the layers of a coating from each other. By applying BS EN 302-2 guidance, you can reduce the delamination of the adhesives for load-bearing timber structures

By using BS EN 302-2, you can understand methods to apply high and low pressure to laminated specimens alternatively.

This BS EN 302-2 specifies the test method and procedure for adhesives. This test method helps in determining the resistance of delamination on load-bearing timber structures. Using BS EN 302-2 you ensure the sustainability of adhesives in different climatic conditions. This results in manufacturing good quality adhesives that are used in load-bearing timber structures.

What’s changed since the last update ?

BS EN 302-2:2017 supersedes BS EN 302-2:2013. BS EN 302-2:2017 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 302-2:2013. These include:

  • EN 15416-2 is replaced by EN 302-8, Adhesives for load-bearing timber structures — Test methods —Part 8: Static load test of multiple bond line specimens in compression shear
  • Preparation of bonded members with 2 mm glue line thickness added as 5.2.2
  • Preparation of test pieces with 2 mm glue line thickness added as 5.3.2
  • Drying conditions for hardwood species included in 5.4.3
