What is BS EN 12004-2 - Adhesives for ceramic tiles about ?

BS EN 12004-2 is the second part of an international standard used for adhesives for ceramic tiles. BS EN 12004-2 specifies the methods for determining characteristics for adhesives used in the internal and external installation of ceramic tiles.

Note: BS EN 12004-2 does not contain performance requirements or recommendations for the design and installation of ceramic tiles.

Note 2: Ceramic tile adhesives can be used also for other kinds of tiles (natural and agglomerated stones, etc.) if they do not adversely affect the stones.

Who is BS EN 12004-2 - Adhesives for ceramic tiles for ?

BS EN 12004-2 on adhesives for ceramic tiles is useful for:

  • Constructors of buildings
  • Civil engineers
  • Architects
  • Interior designers

Why should you use BS EN 12004-2 - Adhesives for ceramic tiles ?

By using BS EN 12004-2 you can identify the test materials to be used while performing the tests. The test is conducted in different climatic conditions which leads in sustaining the adhesives in different conditions used for installing the ceramic tiles. With the help of BS EN 12004-2, you can determine the characteristics of the adhesives by using test methods. The test methods are as follows:

  • Determination of open time
  • Determination of slip
  • Determination of tensile adhesion strength for cementitious adhesives
  • Determination of shear adhesion strength of dispersion adhesives
  • Determination of shear adhesion strength of reaction resin adhesives
  • Determination of transverse deformation of cementitious adhesives

BS EN 12004-2 can guide you in conducting these tests and determining the characteristics of adhesives for ceramic tile.
