What is BS 4656-25 - Accuracy of gear planing machines about?

BS 4656-25 is the 25th part of the BS 4656 multi-series that discusses the accuracy of machine tools and test methods.

BS 4656-25 specifies, with reference to BS 3800, both geometrical and practical tests for gear planing machines used for the production of external spur and helical gears and splined shafts, and gives corresponding permissible deviations which apply.

BS 4656-25 is applicable to machines of general-purpose use and normal accuracy.

BS 4656-25 deals only with verifying the accuracy of the machine.

Note: BS 4656-25 does not apply to the testing of the running of the machine (vibrations, abnormal noises, stick-slip motion of components etc.) nor to its characteristics (speeds, feeds etc.) which should generally be checked before testing accuracy.

Who is BS 4656-25 - Accuracy of gear planing machines for?

BS 4656-25 on the accuracy of machine tools and methods of test is useful for:

  • Manufacturers/ suppliers of planing machines
  • Designers of planing machines
  • Quality control personnel
  • Testing and inspection personnel

Why should you use BS 4656-25 - Accuracy of gear planing machines

Gear planing machines are widely used in industries for the precise shaping of metals & various solid materials. However, these machines need to be regularly verified for accuracy to identify whether there is any disturbance in their components that could affect their operational capability.

The test methods of BS 4656-25 help you to verify whether the components of gear planing machines are designed and installed accurately and have permissible deviations.

Overall, the test methods of BS 4656-25 help you to verify and enhance the build quality of your portal type Plano-milling machines.
